Long before Rajasthan became a destination for travellers, its magnificent forts and palaces were home to royal families whose lives were surrounded by ceremony, craftsmanship and beauty.

Behind the carved stone jharokhas, within quiet palace courtyards and gardens, lived the princesses and queens of Rajputana.

Their world was one of richly woven textiles, jewellery, flowers, music and carefully observed traditions.

And the painters of Rajasthan preserved glimpses of that world.
